Verizon Service Restored After Day-Long US Outage
Thousands of Verizon customers across the U.S. faced service disruptions on Saturday due to a “software issue” affecting wireless networks. At least 11,000 outages were reported by the evening as users struggled to make calls or access data.
Verizon confirmed that most affected customers have now regained service. Officials said engineers were actively diagnosing and resolving the problem, which impacted major cities including Los Angeles, Orlando, Tampa, Chicago, Atlanta, Minneapolis, Omaha, and Indianapolis.
According to Downdetector.com, reports of outages peaked at over 22,000 around 3:45 p.m. ET, then gradually declined as service began stabilizing. By 7:30 p.m. PDT, most networks in major urban centers had been restored, though some isolated issues persisted into the night.
Many iPhone users reported their devices stuck in SOS mode, which limits calls to emergency numbers until regular service resumes. Verizon urged customers to monitor network updates online and assured that restoring service was a top priority.
Verizon Wireless, a subsidiary of Verizon, provides mobile and landline services to over 146 million subscribers nationwide. The company experienced a similar outage last year, highlighting the challenges of maintaining large-scale network reliability.
Bottom line: Most Verizon users have regained service after a day-long outage that affected thousands nationwide, with engineers continuing to monitor and stabilize the network.
