Grameenphone Launches 5G Trials in All Divisional Cities
Dhaka, September 23, 2022 — Grameenphone, Bangladesh’s leading digital connectivity partner, has expanded its 5G trials to all eight divisional cities, reinforcing its commitment to building a “Smart Bangladesh.”
After successfully conducting the country’s first 5G trial in Dhaka and Chattogram on July 26, 2022, Grameenphone has now rolled out trials nationwide starting September 22.
An inauguration ceremony was held at GP House and, at the same time, connected virtually with divisional cities. During the event, guests experienced 5G use cases such as robotic arms, AR video, VR gaming, AR selfies, and cloud gaming. Furthermore, the demonstrations showcased the practical benefits of 5G in real-life scenarios. In addition, they emphasized how advanced connectivity can enhance both entertainment and industrial applications. As a result, the event clearly highlighted how 5G can transform digital experiences and industries in Bangladesh.
BTRC Chairman Shyam Sunder Sikder attended as Chief Guest, alongside senior officials from BTRC, Grameenphone leadership, and technology partners Huawei, ZTE, and Wipro. He noted that 5G will accelerate Bangladesh’s digital transformation and help unlock opportunities of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR).

From September 29, 5G trial sites will be available at Gulshan GPC, BUET, IEB (Dhaka), Sylhet (Mirabazar), Cox’s Bazar (Kolatoli), Khulna, Mymensingh, Rajshahi (Alupatti Mor), Rangpur (Payra Chattar), Chattogram (Pahartoly), and Cumilla, allowing people to experience next-generation connectivity.
With this expansion, Grameenphone aims to enable industries, communities, and individuals to explore the transformative potential of 5G and accelerate the nation’s journey toward Smart Bangladesh.
