Chad’s Telecom Minister Urges Airtel to Improve Network Quality
Chad’s telecommunications sector has once again been brought into focus as concerns over poor mobile network services were raised by the Ministry of Telecommunications, Digital Economy, and Digitalization.
On Monday, September 29, 2025, Dr. Boukar Michel, the Minister of Telecommunications, met with Airtel senior executives in N’Djamena to address ongoing issues affecting mobile network users across the country. The discussion was centered on service quality, network reliability, and investment follow-through.
It was emphasized by the Ministry that telecom services remain unsatisfactory, with users experiencing frequent disruptions and inadequate coverage nationwide. Officials noted that Airtel’s previously announced investment of 16 billion CFA francs must now translate into tangible improvements, particularly in network stability and coverage expansion.
Attention was drawn to energy challenges at transmission sites, with recommendations for hybrid power solutions combining thermal and solar energy to ensure uninterrupted network operations.
Concerns were also raised by ARCEP Tchad, highlighting that Airtel continues to rank among the lowest in service quality despite repeated engagements from senior management. Daily network disruptions in both urban and rural areas were noted as having adverse effects on economic activity, social life, and national security.
Airtel executives acknowledged the challenges and assured that efforts to upgrade infrastructure, expand equipment capacity, and enhance nationwide coverage are ongoing. The company reiterated its commitment to providing more reliable telecom services to meet the growing demands of Chadian users.
